Colored pencils are a fun medium for any age. Economical and portable, the effects achieved with these pencils range from very soft, muted artwork to vibrant, colorful designs.
Some of my favorites are made by Prismacolor. Once you start drawing with them, you won’t want to go back to the regular student brands again. The colors are designed to be blended and layered to produce beautiful results.
Tortillons, stumps, and blenders are used for blending the colors. Stumps are similar to tortillons – they are made of tightly-wound paper and have a point on both ends. Other blenders look more like pencils.

Most colored pencils are difficult to erase. If you would like that option, Prismacolor produces a special type called COL-ERASE which does just that. I’ve also had some success using a battery-operated eraser like the one below.
