The way I used to be in the beach before the ship came (X Press Pearl) ( නැව නාවනම්)

By S.K. Binuthi, Age 10, Sri Lanka

Recently in Sri Lanaka, there was huge pollution in the sea due to a fire outbreak of ship know as “X Press Pearl” which carried crude oil, plastic pellets, strong acid of Nitric and some other hazardous chemicals. Due to fire outbreak this ship sank in the Sri Lankan sea. The incident was deemed the worst marine ecological disaster in Sri Lankan history. It kills lot of sea animals and still we can see death bodies of innocent animals ( fish, turtle, Star fish, coral) alone the beach. Same time government has adviced to not to get into sea beach since those chemicals can be harmful for us as well. This is a huge destruction of the biodiversity. The sea water is flooded with lot of plastic pellets and it kills fish, since those tiny parts block their gills.
Binuthi is a kid who likes to enjoy her leisure time at the beach with Mum and Dad. But now, even she lives nearby the beach, she can not get into the beach. She missed the lovely time she spent in the beach by observing those innocent sea creatures and she is really worrying when she sees those death animal since she is an animal lover.
This art is her own though to demonstrate the way she spent the time in the beach before this ship come in to Sri Lanka. This impact will last for many years and it destories the entire sea.
